How long does a typical surgery take?
The length of the surgery depends upon the procedure. Most procedures we performtake between one and four hours.

When can I go back to work?
Many factors determine how long it will take for you to recover from surgery including the type of procedure and your general health. Ask your surgeon for specific information on post-operative care and how you can take an active role in your recovery.

Do you offer financing?
Yes. Please call 206 368-6603 for details. We also accept Visa, Discover and MasterCard.

Can I talk to other patients who have had the same surgery?
Yes, absolutely. Your surgeon can help you contact people who’ve had similar surgical experiences.

Where will I have surgery?
Surgery will take place in the procedure room, or one of four, state-of-the art operating rooms here at the North Seattle Surgery Center. We are located in the Northwest Outpatient Medical Center, just off I-5 near Northgate.

Do I need to have blood work and other tests before the surgery?
Your surgeon will order any tests you may need before your surgical procedure. It’s important to complete these tests several days before your surgery.

When do I pay for elective surgery out of my own pocket?
Uninsured or cash patients will be asked to pay for services on or before the day of surgery, unless other arrangements have been made. Patients with verified insurance will be asked to pay ONLY their portion of the charges for surgery on or before the day of surgery. If you have any financial questions about your care, please call 206-368-6603 to talk to our patient accounts specialist.

What kind of anesthesia do you use?
Some surgeries are done under local anesthesia with sedation, while others require general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia. Your surgeon and anesthesiologist will be happy to answer your questions about anesthesia in relation to your particular procedure.

Can I go home on my own, once I wake up?
No, once you’re discharged, you MUST be accompanied by an adult who may either drive you home, or take you home in a taxi. Please do not take public transportation. It’s also a good idea to arrange for an adult to stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery, since you may not feel up to preparing meals or doing chores.

Can I eat, drink or smoke before surgery?
No. Most surgical procedures require that you not eat any solid food after the midnight the evening before the procedure. You can drink clear liquids, such as water, tea or black coffee or clear soft drinks like Seven-Up or Sprite up to three hours before surgery. You should not smoke the day of the surgery; we advise quitting smoking at least two weeks before your surgery date. This gives your lungs and respiratory system the chance to heal before you are placed under anesthesia.
